The 2024 Westerner Dairy Showcase
Holstein Show more than lived up to its
new Holstein Canada “National Show”
status when it was held on October 18
and 19 at Westerner Park, Red Deer, AB.
“I saw an incredible show. I know now
why we call this a National Show. It has
been spectacular,” remarked Judge
Dominic Fortier of Ferme Fortale, Saint-
Christophe-d’Arthbaska, QC, after lining
up 188 impressive Holstein entries before
a large crowd. The Holstein classes
alternated with those in the 49-head
Jersey Show which was part of the
70th anniversary of the Westerner Dairy
Showcase.
“It’s a tough decision, but today I’m the boss
and I hope people are OK with my decision,”
said Judge Fortier as he favoured “youth
over maturity” in declaring the winning
Winter 2-Year-Old and Intermediate
Champion, OLORTINE AVENGER DESIGN,
as Grand Champion and Best Udder of the
Holstein Show for R&F Livestock Inc. (SK)
and Walker Dairy Inc. (ON). Design would
later go on to be declared the show’s
Supreme Champion over the Jersey and
Red & White Champions. All-Canadian
Winter Yearling in Milk in 2023, this young
cow was “right on the money” with her
dairyness, depth of rib and handling of
rear legs, putting her ahead of the EX-97,
12-year-old Production Class winner with
the high and wide rear udder, BERNALTA
DUDE DRESSY, who took Reserve Grand
Champion for Westcoast Holsteins (BC).
Tagged as Honourable Mention Grand
Champion was another R&F and Walker
entry, JENDRO DELTA LAMBDA SANDY,
who had been first Senior 3-Year-Old.
The Reserve Intermediate Championship
went to CRESTOMERE CELLUL AR
TWINKLE, the Junior 3-Year-Old who had
been acquired at showtime by Roswitha
Holsteins (MB). She was wider through

the front-end and better in rear udder
attachment than the first Fall 2-Year-Old,
WENDON UNSTOP ROBIN, the Honourable
Mention Intermediate Champion from R&F
and Walker Dairy.
A speckled Spring Yearling, CHUBANNA
AMAETHON DIONE, who had been
Champion at Western Canadian Classic
(WCC) this past summer, used her quality,
width and handling of legs to take the
Junior Champion rosette for owners
Chubbana Holsteins (AB), Benbie Holsteins
(SK), Robella Holsteins (SK) and Dakota
Doyle (SK). Clinching Reserve Junior
Champion was CRESTOMERE MASTER
DEVISE, the well balanced, wide rumped
Fall Calf winner who had just been acquired
by T&L Cattle (BC). MOSNANG SYNERGY
SWEEPSTAKES, the tall Spring Heifer
Calf from Mosnang Holsteins (AB) was
Honourable Mention.
Red & White Holsteins competed with their
Black & White counterparts in class but
were recognized with separate champion
awards. WESTCOAST SWINGMAN
MAZE, the long, dairy 4-Year-Old class
winner from Westcoast, took home
Grand Champion R&W honours and was
Best Overall Bred & Owned cow in the
show. Intermediate Champion R&W was
EXCELERANT PHOENIX-RED-ET, who had
been an easy winner in the Summer 2-Year-
Olds for Westcoast and T&L Cattle. When
Phoenix unfortunately could not return
later in the day to contest for overall Grand
Champion, the Reserve Intermediate R&W
Champion, KOZAK WARRIOR RED BLAZE P,
who had been second Winter 2-Year-Old,
stepped up to become Reserve Grand
Champion R&W for Kozak Holsteins (AB),
Ells Dairy Farm (SK), Orville Schmidt (AB)
and R&F Livestock. Her full sister, KOZAK
WARRIOR BOMBSHELL RED, who had
been fourth Senior 3-Year-Old for R&F
and Walker Dairy, followed as Honourable
Mention Grand Champion R&W. Cited
as Honourable Mention Intermediate
B&W Junior
Champion: (L-R)
Judge Dominic
Fortier, Rory Timlin
with CRESTOMERE
MASTER DEVISE –
Reserve; Andrew
Wildeboer with
CHUBANNA
AMAETHON DIONE –
Champion.
Champion R&W was BLONDIN BELIEVE
IT IM SEXY, the third place Junior 3-Year-
Old who is now owned by American
Stranshome Holsteins (MN).
Getting the nod for R&W Junior Champion
was CRESTOMERE WARRIOR LOVESONG,
the long, wide entry from Crestomere
Holsteins (AB) who had been first Summer
Yearling. She went ahead of the well
balanced Winter Calf winner and Reserve
R&W Junior Champion from Kozak, KOZAK
WARRIOR RED BEAUTY, who had an edge
over KOZAK WARRIOR RED BLUSH, the
fourth Fall Calf and Honourable Mention
R&W owned by Kozak, Fred Fornwald &
Sons Farms (MB) and Ryan Donohoe (MB).
An elated Crestomere Holsteins claimed
the Holstein Show ’s Overall Premier
Breeder banner, while R&F Livestock and
Walker Dairy, who had won four milking
classes, took the Overall Premier Exhibitor
title. Hamming Holsteins (BC) was Junior
Premier Exhibitor, with Mosnang Holsteins
clinching Junior Premier Breeder. The
Premier Sire was FARNEAR DELTA-
LAMBDA.
The hard working Westerner Dairy
Showcase Committee, headed by Don
Chalack, are to be congratulated for
the outstanding event they put on again
this year. Todd Searles, Hollandale, MN,

won the show’s Mega Moola draw and
selected LOVHILL LAMBDA SHERBERT,
a calf entered by Lovholm Holsteins (SK),
as his prize. It was great to see so many
respected “old-timers” taking in the shows,
including 87-year-old Stan Coleman and
his 91-year-old wife Margaret, well-known
Jersey breeders from Innisfail, AB. The live
stream of the show drew many viewers
with the engaging commentary provided
by John Copithorne, Russell Gammon and
Dr. David Chalack. A toast to longtime Red
Deer exhibitor, Rod York (SK), who died in
April, was led at the Exhibitors Banquet by
friend Jeff Donohoe (MB).
A large Youth Show was held on October
24th with Judge Michael Haambuckers,
Agassiz, BC, placing the showmanship and
conformation classes. In the showmanship
contest that drew 49 competitors, Nicole
Verhoef (AB) was first Senior and Grand
Champion Showperson, with second
place Senior, Allyson McAvoy (BC), taking
Reserve, and Kade Crosbie (SK), the first
Junior, earning Honourable Mention. In
the 61-head Conformation segment of
this show, Allyson McAvoy claimed Grand
Champion with her first place Fall Calf,
PACIFIC CREST JORDAN SNEAKERS, with
Reserve awarded to the top Spring Calf,
GENOSOURCE DOUBLE DICE-ET, exhibited
by Katelyn Evans (ON).
