Coming Home at Coming Home at Christmas Christmas
For about eight years, during my
time as a student and in my early
career, I lived off the Island, and
there was always something special
about ‘coming home’ at Christmas.
It meant extended time in the barn
and milking on Christmas morning
and brought along feelings of peace
and contentment. There is an
unexplainable warmth and joy that
is intricately entwined with HOME.
I think the feeling of ‘coming home’
can happen in other ways too. I’ve
experienced it when I travel to the
Netherlands to visit my family, or when
I have coffee with friends I haven’t seen
since high school.
Throughout my first five months as
the Associate Editor of the WCDN,
I’ve felt the same way. There have
been lots of highlights with events and
interviews, but having the opportunity
to reconnect with my dairy family is the
best part of ‘coming home’ to the dairy
business fulltime.
