Jersey Canada Jersey Canada has held a Jersey Youth
provided me with so much over the last
Showmanship competition at the Royal
three decades.
Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto for the
last 39 years. This competition allows youth,
ranging in ages 6-21, to refine and show off
their showmanship skills on a large stage.
This year Jersey Canada was honoured
to welcome Rochester, Alberta’s own
Casey Morey to judge the showmanship
competition on the evening of Friday,
November 8th, with 53 competitors. Jersey
Canada staff admired the time Casey took to
speak to the participants at the end of each
class, providing praise and constructive
feedback. Casey told them she “appreciated
getting feedback” when she was showing,
so she makes sure to offer the same now
that she’s in the judge’s position.
“Judging the Jersey Canada Showmanship
Competition at the Royal was a once in a
lifetime opportunity. When you start your
judging career, you’re always looking for the
next opportunity to stand in the center of
the ring, to show off your abilities as a judge,
enhance your skills and give back to the
dairy community that has given you so much
already. After all the judging opportunities
I have been given over the last four years,
being asked to judge showmanship at the
Royal was the icing on the cake. It gave me
a chance to take my experience beyond
Western Canada and give back to the Jersey
breed, a breed and association that has
“One of the many reasons I coach programs
like WCC (Western Canadian Classic), and
judge youth shows is because of how much
those programs, and the people involved
with them, gave to me when I was young. I
want to ensure that I give the youth of our
industry the same opportunities that I had.
Being able to judge a high calibre show like
at the Royal has provided me with insights
on new ways to teach my team members
and ensure they get the best possible
experience.”
